As I have stated in previous posts, I love animals. So when I was a teenager, I realized that I felt like a hypocrite for eating them. I attempted to go vegetarian on and off for years, until about 7 months ago when it has stuck for good. A few years ago, my parents made a huge lifestyle change and became vegan. Although they chose to change their diet for health reasons, that made my choice to go vegetarian for moral reasons even easier. Suddenly, all the food at my house was plant-based, and that made my transition easy. I started watching various documentaries about vegetarianism and realized it was not only good for animals, but good for my health too. Once I got to UNE, I joined VegUNE, the vegetarian club here on campus. It has been great meeting so many like minded people! We have gone apple picking together, done a spa night with cruelty free products, and are even having a veg-based Thanksgiving together. Being a vegetarian isn’t just about a diet, it is about having compassion and love for both animals and my health.
